Governor Cuomo is reported to have asked the Medicaid Inspector General, Jim Sheehan, to leave. It appears therefore that Sheehan will be gone within the next couple of weeks. Cuomo's action may be in response to the enormous controversy Sheehan's post generated in the State's health care industry.

It also references the controversy over funding which originally surfaced in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

LAN Breaking News 7/21/2011: Breaking News: Deficit Debate, Medicaid Cuts, Debt Ceiling
With the August 2nd deadline for increasing the nation's debt ceiling looming, another deficit reduction plan was proposed by a bipartisan "Gang of Six" Senators.
The proposal, praised by President Obama, saves $3.7 trillion over the next 10 years. It embraces entitlement cuts along with measures to enhance federal revenues. Two days ago the House passed its own proposal - the Cap, Cut and Balance bill - that relies entirely on expenditure reductions.

LAN Breaking News 7/6/2011: Deficit talks intensify in DC, Medicaid a target
Deficit reduction talks have become extremely serious since Congress will not act to increase the debt ceiling without significant cuts to the federal budget. Many believe that failure to increase the debt ceiling will trigger catastrophic consequences. What makes these talks of special concern to people with developmental disabilities is that of the various proposals discussed, they all have Medicaid cuts in common. Many of the proposed cuts are very substantial. In New York State they would amount to another, even deeper round of future budget cuts to services for people with developmental disabilities.

LAN Breaking News, 8/1/2011: Medicaid Could Be Exempt in Debt Deal
An initial look at the debt ceiling deal to be voted on today could exempt Medicaid from cuts, in the event that across the board cuts are triggered.
The deal allows the President to raise the debt ceiling by about $2.1 trillion, enough to take the nation beyond the 2012 elections.
Cuts will occur in two stages and total approximately $2.5 trillion...
