Library Information

The NYSARC library, located at 393 Delaware Avenue in Delmar, New York, is a small specialized collection containing carefully selected up to date material on intellectual and other developmental disabilities and related fields.  It is a resource center and archival collection primarily for the use of the State Office staff and the 55 chapters of our Association.

Although not a circulating collection, reference questions, research requests and referral information can be obtained by phone, mail/e-mail.  Parents, students or anyone interested in the field of intellectual and other developmental disabilities are encouraged and welcomed to visit our library.

The main collection consists of some 407 volumes, current reference works, videos, related non-book materials (e.g. pamphlets, reports, reprints, journal articles, state and federal publications, etc.), updated books on state and federal codes and regulations and over 100 journals, newsletters, periodicals and directories.*

Within the archival collection, we have compiled a history of NYSARC, Inc. from its beginnings in 1949 to the present time - its changes and its growth.  There is also a comprehensive collection of the history of intellectual and other developmental disabilities in the State of New York - from Willowbrook to the present.
