Leaving a Legacy
"What is My Legacy?"
This is a question we ask ourselves as we accept our mortality. How do we contribute to the world of helping others as NYSARC has done for more than six decades?
Whether it is recognition or establishment of an endowed fund, an unrestricted gift created with a generous bequest, or a generous life-income gift, the Office of Planned Giving at NYSARC can help you find the appropriate way to leave a meaningful legacy for others. Here are just a few of the easily created gifts that make a lasting difference.
Bequest
Below is the specific language to use when you create a bequest in your will that will aid people less fortunate. To learn more about creating an irrevocable bequest for NYSARC, please call the Office of Planned Giving for confidential information at 518 439-8311. There is no minimum amount for a bequest—all gifts are welcomed and appreciated. Please let us know when you name NYSARC in your will so that we can respect your wishes.
For an outright bequest:
“I irrevocably give, devise, and bequeath to NYSARC, Tax ID#135678837, 393 Delaware Avenue, Delmar, NY 12054, the sum of $__________ [or a description of a specific asset], for the benefit of NYSARC to be used for the following purpose: [state the purpose]. If at any time in the judgment of the trustees of the NYSARC it is impossible or impracticable to carry out exactly the designated purpose, they shall determine an alternative purpose closest to the designated purpose.”
For a residuary bequest:
Residuary Bequests are made when you intend to leave the residue portion of your assets after other terms of the will have been satisfied.
For example:
“All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, I irrevocably give to NYSARC, Tax ID#135678837, 393 Delaware Avenue, Delmar, NY 12054, for its general purpose.”
For a contingency bequest:
Contingency Bequests allow you to leave a portion of your estate to a particular charity if your named beneficiary does not survive you.
Here is an example:
“I devise and bequeath the residue of the property, real and personal and wherever situated, owned by me at my death, to (name of beneficiary), if (she/he) survives me. If (name of beneficiary) does not survive me, I irrevocably devise and bequeath my residuary estate to NYSARC, Tax ID#135678837, 393 Delaware Avenue, Delmar, NY 12054 for its [general purposes or a specific purpose you request].”
Other types of bequests:
You can leave a legacy for our community of developmentally disabled by naming NYSARC the “beneficiary” of your Individual Retirement Account (IRA or 401[K]) or your Life Insurance Policy. The “beneficiary” should be noted as:
NYSARC, Inc., Tax ID#13-5678837, 393 Delaware Avenue, Delmar NY 12054
