Supported Work Provider of the Year

Each year NYSARC, Inc. presents two awards that enables Chapters to recognize an individual, corporation or business in New York State that has demonstrated support and assistance in providing work opportunities and supports for individuals who have intellectual and other developmental disabilities.

A Supported Work Provider is one who employs individuals who have intellectual and other developmental disabilities while receiving support from a NYSARC, Inc. Chapter (i.e. job coach, clinical services, transportation, etc.) during working hours.

2007 SUPPORTED WORK PROVIDER OF THE YEAR

The NYSARC, Inc. 2007 Supported Work Provider of the Year is B.J.'s Wholesale Club located at 950 Ridge Road, Webster, New York.  B.J.'s Wholesale Club employs four (4) people with intellectual or other developmental disabilities, comprising 1% of their total work force.

B.J.'s Wholesale Club is a leading wholesale club chain which operates in the Eastern United States.  They sell a large variety of everyday and household items.

The Arc's Job Path Program has enjoyed  a professional relationship with a variety of B.J.'s locations for several years, and formed the relationship with the Webster location in 2004.  They have assisted individuals with developmental disabilities in establishing both career exploration opportunities, as well as competitive employment.



2006 SUPPORTED WORK PROVIDER OF THE YEAR

The NYSARC, Inc. 2006 Supported Work Provider of the Year is G.W. Lisk located at 2 South Street, Clifton Springs, New York.  G.W. Lisk employs thirteen (13) people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, comprising 4% of their total work force.  G.W. Lisk has been a strong supporter of The Arc's Supported Employment Program for over fifteen (15) years.

G.W. Lisk is the leader in design, engineering and manufacturing of the Solenoids, Valves, LVDT's and Flame Arrestors.  The products are used in the commercial industry to include automotive, military, aviation and medical fields.

G.W. Lisk has shown a commitment to helping people with developmental disabilities by expanding the enclaves as well as the ability to perform situational assessments.

G.W. Lisk works with people with various disabilities.  All of the employees are integrated throughout the work site and are invited to take part in events sponsored by the employer.



2005 SUPPORTED WORK PROVIDER OF THE YEAR

The 2005 NYSARC, Inc. Supported Work Provider of the Year  is ARAMARK Food Services located at Utica College of Syracuse University.  ARAMARK employs five (5) people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, comprising 7% of their total work force.  ARAMARK has been a strong supporter of The Arc's Supported Employment Program since 1988.

At least 10 different individuals, each with a wide range of abilities, have worked at the site located at Utica College.  At the present time, five (5) individuals are employed in the college kitchen/dining hall, one of which has been a dedicated employee for over 15 years.

ARAMARK has always been eager to hire and work with people with disabilities.  They not only welcome job coaches from the ARC into their kitchens and dining rooms, but they take extra care to give them the help they need to learn each assigned task.

We are grateful to the staff of ARAMARK for going above and beyond to make our consumers feel at home and part of a team.

2004 Supported Work Provider of the Year
Wegmans

The NYSARC, Inc. 2004 Supported Work Provider of the Year is Wegmans. 

Wegmans is located in Canandaigua, New York and employs nine (9) people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities, comprising 4.5% of their total work force.  Wegmans has provided employment opportunities to individuals with developmental disabilities for over twenty years.

Wegmans is a large grocery retailer in the Finger Lakes Region, with various sites throughout New York State.  Wegmans has always been very supportive of our Ontario Chapter and its Supported Employment Program.  The various supervisors at Wegmans are in contact with Job Coaches, and are always ready to establish necessary supports in order to make the individual's job successful and enjoyable.

The Ontario County Chapter looks forward to their continued relationship with Wegmans as they strive to expand the program in years to come.
